Many environmentalists are concerned with global warming and they say the Planet is doomed and yet I asked them what can we do? Some of them say we need to shut down all of our energy generation because we're polluting the air. They tell us that we must stop driving our cars and flying our aircraft. They tell us we can no longer use oil or run our trains to transport products or our people. Of course this also means that the trucks on the highway that distribute all the products in our civilization can no longer be driven either.
Basically they want to shut down all of civilization because they believe the Planet's average ambient temperature is heating up 2°. Well, this idea shutting down human civilizations will only cause chaos and controversy and more wars. Would someone from the Global Warming Political Party please show me an energy strategy that makes sense that will actually work?
Sure, it makes sense to have more wind generation, hydroelectric power, solar energy or even ocean wave generating machines. Of course everyone is in favor of all that. But we use a lot of energy in our country and so does the rest of the world. So we need a strategy that makes sense because so far our alternative energy only makes up about 2% of the energy we use and we cannot turn our civilization upside down overnight due to the perceived doom and gloom of global warming.
So, I ask you for solutions not condemnation and not constant complaints; I am asking you for an energy strategy that makes sense and is doable and if you do not have one then there is no sense in talking about this any further. It is a waste of brainpower and so I hope you will consider this in 2006 and when you come up with the answer give me a call.
